This is one of my favorite hearty side dishes for anytime of year, though it probably is best suited for Fall. Very quick and easy to put together too! | This post contains affiliate links |
I call it my Harvest Side Dish because it's basis is Trader Joe's Harvest Grains Blend. I'm a huge fan of this mix, even on it's own. It makes a great side to dinner any night of the week and adding some of my favorite fall foods in there just makes it even more harvest-y (that's a word, right?).
Harvest Side Dish
Prep time 10 mins | Cook time 25 mins | Serves up to 8
Ingredients
1/2 a package of Trader Joe's Harvest Grains Blend (if not available you can substitute a mix of Israeli couscous, orzo, baby garbanzo beans, and red quinoa, totaling 1 1/4 cups)
1 small onion
1 apple
1 package of apple chicken sausage
1/2 tsp sage
salt and pepper to taste
Directions
Cook Harvest Grains Blend (or your substitution) according to package directions.
While that's cooking, cut up sausage and onion and saute in pan until cooked through, seasoning with sage, salt, and pepper. Add in chopped apples towards the end (I like them soft but not mushy).
Once all your cooked ingredients are finished, mix together in a large bowl and serve hot.
I've just listed these adorable gold-painted acorns in my Etsy Shop! These fallen New England acorns have been washed and oven dried before being painted a luxe gold. They come as a set of a dozen and the possibilities are endless with what you can do with them - vase fillers, adding finishing touches to centerpieces, place settings, crafts, and more!
I think they will look perfect on our Thanksgiving table! What would you use them for?
It's been awhile since I've had arrow ornaments available but I thought I'd bring them back because they're so fun and, well, arrows are big right now! I have them listed in the Etsy shop in both birch and maple with your choice of ribbon.
Our little one isn't in school yet, but every time we finish up a product with a Box Tops I make sure to clip it out and slip it in a designated envelope we have taped to the inside of one of our kitchen cupboards.
Ka-ching! Free money for our local school.
When the envelope gets full, I drop them off at the local elementary school for them to add to their collection and send in. Every box top sent in equals 10 cents for the school. Once you notice how many products you buy have them, you see how fast the money can add up for the school. Every little bit helps and it makes me feel good to know I'm contributing to my daughters future school, even in such a small way.
Today I'm reviewing Nûby's Stainless Steel No-Spill Flip-It Cup with 360 Weighted Straw (whew, that's a mouthful!). Despite the long name, I was really excited to try out this cup with our little one.
We've been a huge fan of Nûby's regular straw cups for a while now, and I was looking forward to trying something new from them. This cup is from their new stainless steel line and it has a weighted straw, something we've never tried before.
This cup has the bite-valve straw that our daughter loves, is BPA-free, and keeps her drink cool for up to 10 hours. The weighted straw was pretty neat too - the inner part is flexible with a weighted bottom so it gets every bit of water. No more frustrated toddler shaking her cup, mad because there's still half an inch of water in it that she can't get - this straw is able to get every drop.
One thing that could be improved though would be to make it easier to clean. This, like most double-walled cups, can't be put in the dishwasher but ease of cleaning is always important in my book. Also, while the weighted-straw is very cool, it does make for a lot more pieces to take apart and clean.
Despite being tricky to clean, we really love this cup overall and have gotten a lot of compliments on it when we're out and about.

Dropped off an order of our Hand-Etched Ornaments at the amazing Daytrip Society in Kennebunkport, Maine today. So very honored that our ornaments will be there this year.
If you haven't been to Daytrip Society yet, go! Such a beautiful shop filled with unique gifts, many of which are Maine-made and New England-made. I wanted to take the whole place home with me!
I wish this picture wasn't so glare-y so you could see their beautiful window display!
