Potty Training On-The-Go

You know that potty training is getting serious when you start driving around with a tiny toilet in your trunk! Thought I’d hop on here real quick and share some of our potty training “on-the-go” hacks. | This post contains affiliate links |

First, while we may be doing undies in the house - we still use pull-ups at night and when we leave the house… why? Because Mama don’t like having to change wet or poopy clothes in Target or get a carseat full on a drive. That is not fun for anyone and doesn’t set your kid up for success. Also, cleaning carseats is the worst.

Potty Training On-The-Go

For us we potty train our kids 100% at home and let them be flexible (by using a pull-up) whenever we’re out and about until they are VERY good at it, before transitioning them to undies all the time. During this transitionary time, we always keep a small potty in our trunk in case they need to go. It’s a lot easier and more comfortable for them to use a little potty that they’re used to, rather than having you dangle them over a public toilet at Starbucks.

The biggest helpful trick to the trunk potty? Line it with a clean diaper to absorb waste - that way you’re not driving around with a cup full of pee sloshing around in your trunk. It also makes for much easier cleanup!

And it goes without saying to keep wipes, clean pull-ups, a change of clothes, and a towel within reach in the trunk as well too… just in case.

Best of luck on your potty training adventure!

Daylight Savings Time Miracle

You guys.  Our toddler stayed in her room until it was time to get up, despite the time change - something that hasn't happened in years.  It's a miracle!

A mom friend had recommended the Ready to Wake Clock to us when we moved our daughter to her big girl room and it's been amazing! She stays in her room now until it turns green in the morning and after "quiet rest time" (she's dropped nap, but still has a time in the afternoon to play quietly and look at books in her room).

And probably the biggest BONUS of all - we actually got to sleep in this morning and take advantage of the time change!  First time in like 3 years.  She just played quietly in her bed until the clock turned green and was none-the-wiser that she was there for an extra hour.

Parenting win!

What's in My Bag? Toddler Mama Edition

So not glamorous, but here's what's in my bag.

What's in my bag for toddler mamas: Highlights Hello book, snacks, chapstick, Pampers diapers and wipes

With a young toddler, there's less "stuff" you always need to carry so I try to keep it to the very basics for walking around (don't worry, there's a bigger back-up diaper bag in the car).  Snacks are a must - you don't want a hangry toddler or mama!  And I can't say enough good things about these "Highlights Hello" magazines - they're lightweight and indestructible.  We keep several in the car, diaper bag, and stroller - much easier to pack than boardbooks.

Not pictured?  A little bottle of hand sanitizer (I forgot it in the car), a must for a curious toddler who tries to pick someone else's gum off the sidewalk.  Ew.
